<itunes:summary>If the Safety of your Life, Family, and Property are a priority to you, do yourself a favor and subscribe.

Here is why:

YOU the PUBLIC, entrust my brother and I to wear a belt with a gun, a bullet-resistant vest, and a badge. You ask us to drive around all day in a patrol car with pretty red and blue lights, to hopefully protect you and your family, your pets, your car, and your property from being victimized. Does it work? It is a nice concept, but you tell me. Chances are you have already been a victim of crime.

We came up with a different concept. One to put you in control. One to make you aware. One that will Make your life Code-4! Remember these 2 very important words. Code-4

Code-4 is a Police code that we use on the radio to tell the dispatcher that we have the situation under control, and that no further assistance is necessary.

We often rush to assist other officers in potentially dangerous situations. While responding to the other officers location, we hear the officer advise dispatch that they are Code-4. No further assistance needed because they have the situation under control. I do not notice it anymore after all these years, but when I hear another cop advise Code-4 my brain tells my body it’s OK to relax. I would not call it a sigh of relief exactly, but I definitely get the feeling that - Everything is cool for now - and my sense of urgency disappears until the next call comes in. Mark and I are both experienced street officers. Day in and day out we see senseless tragedy that could have been avoided. Property loss, that could have been avoided. Innocent people being victimized who did not need to be victimized. Criminals bouncing through the criminal justice system, like it was a revolving door.

Nearly 40 Million Drivers Expected to Hit the Road Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day is the Third Most Perilous Holiday for Vehicular Traffic. Radarsign Reminds Drivers How-to Keep Roads Safe for Holiday Fun

Alpharetta, GA – May 2009 — Nearly forty million drivers are expected to fill highways and byways this coming holiday weekend according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. Memorial Day weekend is the third most perilous holiday for vehicular traffic. Thanksgiving holds the number one spot, with Independence Day at number two. Labor Day and New Year’s Eve round out the top five.

Radarsign (http://www.radarsign.com), the leading manufacturer and retailer of driver feedback signs, today released TEN TIPS TO ROAD SAFETY as vacationers hit the streets.

1. Don’t drive drowsy. According to the National Sleep Foundation’s Report on Drowsy Driving, 100,000 reported crashes, 71,000 injuries and 1,550 deaths every year are attributed to drivers falling asleep at the wheel. Add to that heavy holiday traffic and you have a recipe for disaster. If you are feeling drowsy, get off the road.

2. Wear your seat belt. The DOT reports fifty percent of all vehicular deaths could have been prevented with seat belts.

3. Signal your intentions. Every move you make on the road impacts the decisions and actions of others. By signaling your intention to turn or change lanes, you ensure others are alert to your movements.

4. Do not tailgate. Leave a distance equal to one car’s length for every ten miles per hour. For example, if you are traveling fifty miles an hour, you should fall back a distance equal to five car lengths from the vehicle in front of you.

5. Move away from tailgaters. Many drivers attempt to "teach" a lesson to tailgaters by tapping their brakes telling the other driver to back off. Tailgaters typically exercise poor judgment and endanger themselves and others – especially when challenged. The best thing to do is move out of the way and let the tailgater safely pass you.

6. Avoid standing water. If you must drive through water, do so slowly and avoid sudden use of your brakes, turning too sharply or excessive acceleration. If you do hydroplane (an instance where the tread cannot channel the rainwater from under your tires), do not hit the brakes. Reduce your speed by taking your foot off the accelerator and turning the wheel in the direction you want to travel.

7. Know pedestrian rights. Always be aware of pedestrians at intersections and remember pedestrians have the right of way.

8. Turn on your headlights when visibility is low. The sobering statistic is that while only 25% of the miles we drive are at night, about 50% of the fatalities occur in the darkness–25,000 people each year.

9. Obey the speed limit. A difference of only five miles an hour can be the difference between life and death.

10. Stay alert! Talking on a cell phone, texting, reading maps – even listening to voice-directed GPS systems – can distract you from the road and lead to accidents.

"Every eighteen seconds a U.S. driver is involved in an auto accident and every 11 minutes someone dies in a car crash." said Charlie Robeson, co-Founder of Radarsign. "Road safety is a serious issue; that’s why Radarsigns are affordable enough to be purchased by anyone and flexible enough to be put anywhere speeding is a problem. In the meantime, we hope everyone follows these driver safety tips and has a happy and safe holiday weekend."

About Radarsign

Radarsign is the country’s most affordable, reliable and personal provider of driver feedback signs. Delivering the most energy efficient products on the market and a "built-for-the-job" design, Radarsigns are the most dependable and easy-to-use traffic calming solution.

Revised for 2008 – here is the link to the new “have a nice night” checklist for the fridge. A quick check of this list on a nightly basis will keep you safer.

Download the checklist: Click here – .pdf file

Here is the text we attach to the checklist:

Thanks for looking into trying the Coptalk “Have a nice night!” Safety Checklist.

There is nothing on this list that goes beyond using common sense – however, we get so busy in our lives we often “forget” to take care of certain matters. Unfortunately, the safety of your family and home is not something that can be over looked.

We suggest you post this weekly checklist on your refrigerator door, and review it before you retire for the evening. After a while, you probably won’t need the checklist at all, or you may find you will modify it for your family’s needs.

Print out extra copies for a few months use – or use a copy machine if you are not using a computer. As we have stated in the media, our book “CopTalk” was written because of the public’s view that there is never a cop around when you need one.

If you and your family take this extra effort to secure your safety, and the safety of your property – I assure you – you will be freeing up hundreds of Officers to be actively patrolling the streets, instead of spending hours and hours of report taking for crimes that didn’t need to happen.

Doors Locked? Check all your doors to your residence. The front door, the back door, the side door, the door leading to the garage, sliding glass doors and patio doors.

If it’s a door – make sure it’s locked and secure.

Read more by clicking the link below:

Garage locked? Make sure your garage door is Closed and Locked! This is how most crooks get into your place at night!

Vehicles locked? Lock all the doors, roll up all the windows, and don’t leave valuables in plain view. Bring your purse or laptop computer into the house. Remove the face plate from your stereo! Remember – “Lock it or lose it”.

Windows Locked? Lock them all – even second story windows. Use window locks if you need to leave the windows open at night.

House Alarm on? It won’t work IF YOU DON’T USE IT!

Vehicle Alarms on? It won’t work IF YOU DON’T USE IT!

Night Lights on? Make sure motion lights are on and working. If you don’t have them – get them. If you don’t want them, at least leave the front and rear porch light on. Crooks hate light!

Smoke Alarm on? Make sure the little red light is on, or use the test button. If it’s not in working order, it isn’t going to save your life when you need it.

Fireplace / Electric Heaters secure? If you don’t want your house to catch fire while you are sleeping…..make sure sparks cannot ignite anything near the fireplace, and make sure a pet can’t knock over an electric heater. Safest bet? Turn it off when you go to sleep and buy an extra blanket

Cell Phones Charging? In case of a major disaster or emergency, cell phones have often been of great value for communication. If it’s not charged in the morning, it won’t do you much good. Don’t forget to charge it at night – so the cell phone company can charge you all day!

Where are your KIDS? It’s 11pm, do you know where your kids are at? Go check them!

RIGHT NOW!
